The regional language, known as colloquial Sudanese Arabic, is used for all formal and regional communication, which partly explains this development [...] The relatively small number of speakers, as well as the war in Sudan have left this language with little to no attention from current linguists with the notable exception of Roland C. Stevenson (Stevenson, Rottland & Jakobi 1992; Bender 2000) who collected materials in 1986–88."
