"The exact numbers of Darma speakers are difficult to ascertain due in part to the fact that the census does not count the Rang people individually. Based on the data from the 2001 Census, I estimate that of the 51,026 people living in Dharchula, there are 6,572 Rang people (i.e., people who are classified as members of a Scheduled Tribe).15 Of these, 2,615 live in Darma villages."
